The Systems We Draw From & Why

Schedule of Classes

Youth Tae Kwon Do

Because of the sports aspects of Tae Kwon Do, teamwork, physical fitness, confidence, respect, control and focus are very evident in the daily practicing. Also, many of the kids compete on different levels, either locally or nationally. Competition can be in either “Forms” or “Sparring”. In forms competition, certain moves are learned depending on their belt level and abilities. These forms are over 1000 years old and carry a lot of tradition with them. In sparring competition, protective gear is used which protects each of the areas that can be contacted. This type of sports sparring is very safe for all age groups.

Because of the sports aspect of Tae Kwon Do, there are collegiate teams throughout the country where kids can earn scholarships, as well as military traveling teams where they can also serve our country and compete.

Adult/Teen Styles Taught

Kenpo from traditional Southern Chinese kung fu and other martial arts. It became the sought after martial art in the 1970’s when many of the full contact champions were Kenpo trained. Kenpo Karate is a system of martial arts which is characterized by the use of quick moves in rapid-fire succession with the intention of overwhelming an opponent. Specific targets and tactics are hit with the intention to end any situation quickly and to the desired degree of force. Even to this day, Kenpo continues to be refined to work in modern day fighting scenarios. That is the goal of Kenpo at Main Street Martial Arts. It is constantly “tweaked” and upgraded based on industry research and practical application.
Our senior Impact instructor, Doug Meeks, is a 10th Degree Black Belt in Kenpo, the highest rank achievable in any martial art. Lance Meltzer is an 8th Degree Black Belt and teaches the IFS Impact fundamentals class, and, together, they teach the Applications classes.

Jeet Kune Do, the Style of Fighting developed by Bruce Lee. It was considered a martial art that took the best from all other arts and threw out the “fluff”. Always regarded as “the best martial artist of all time”, Bruce Lee knew that all styles had their strengths and weakness’, so “Why not take the strengths and throw out the weakness’?”. Makes great sense to us! Our instructors are certified Senior JKD instructors under PFS, Paul Vunak.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is probably the most effective ground fighting style used today. It gained great popularity in the UFC but is very practical in street scenarios as well if taught correctly. We offer this training in both the IFS Impact program and traditional sport BJJ in the Napa Fight Sport program for competitive use.

Israeli & Filipino Systems are 2 of the most fierce systems in the world of self defense and fighting. The are systems developed by people who live or lived in war and danger every day of their lives. We bring these arts into the IFS Impact system for self defense against overwhelming odds. We also teach, to our teen/adult IFS Impact students, gun, knife and stick defense. These are your most popular street weapons that one is most likely to encounter. Our instructors are Certified in both of these systems.

Traditional Boxing is taught in all of our programs. It can be one of the most powerful hand usage styles taught, if taught correctly.

Muay Thai is the system taught in our Wolf Pack Muay Thai Combat Fitness program. The program is offered to kids and adults for either getting into great shape while learning to kick box, or for adults who want to compete in the sport. Muay Thai is a great conditioning system and a fun competitive sport.
